The VetsCompared Editorial Team publishes practical UK guides for pet owners. This page explains who we are, how we check facts, and how to tell us if something is wrong.
Who writes these guides
VetsCompared Editorial Team is the named author for guides on VetsCompared. It is the in-house team that researches, drafts, and checks consumer pages about using veterinary practices in the UK. Guides are not written in the name of a veterinary surgeon unless a recorded veterinary review of that exact version has taken place.
How we choose sources
Regulatory and rights claims use official or professional sources first: CMA, GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk, RCVS, VMD, ICO, and VCMS or its official operator. Recognised professional bodies such as BVA, and established consumer organisations, come next. A practice website or news article is not enough on its own for a material rights or obligation claim.
How we check facts
Material claims are stored against the sources they come from, with a retrieved date and a status of current, future, historic, or conditional. Public wording must not turn professional guidance into statute, or a future CMA obligation into a rule that already applies. Inferences are allowed only when they are clearly explanatory, not presented as a formal rule.
Dates and updates
Each guide records when it was published, last updated, last reviewed, and when the cited evidence was last checked. The date on the page is last updated. We do not change that date only to look fresh. A later review is triggered when a cited source changes, or when the next review date arrives.
When a veterinary review is required
Process and rights pages can publish after an editorial check. Content that would tell an owner what to do about a health problem needs a recorded veterinary review of that exact version before publication. We do not invent a veterinary or legal review.
Drafting tools
Drafts may be prepared with editorial software. Published wording is then checked against the cited sources in a separate review from drafting. A person on the editorial team still has to treat the page as approved before we treat it as signed off.
Corrections
If you spot an error, email info@vetscompared.com with the page address and what should change. We will check the cited source and update the page when the evidence requires it.
