The VetsCompared Editorial Team publishes practical UK guides for pet owners. This page explains who writes them, how we check the facts, and how to tell us if something is wrong.
Who writes these guides
VetsCompared Editorial Team is the named author for guides on VetsCompared. It is the in-house team that researches, drafts and checks pages about using veterinary practices in the UK. A guide is not written in the name of a veterinary surgeon unless a recorded veterinary review of that exact version has taken place.
How we choose sources
Claims about rights, regulation or professional rules start with official or professional sources: the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and the Veterinary Client Mediation Service (VCMS) or its official operator. Recognised professional bodies such as the British Veterinary Association (BVA), and established consumer organisations, come next. A practice website or news article is not enough on its own for a material rights or obligation claim.
How we check facts
For important claims about rights, regulation or professional rules, we check the original source and record when we checked it. If a change has been announced but is not yet in force, the guide says so rather than presenting it as a current rule. We do not turn professional guidance into statute. An inference is allowed only when it is clearly explanatory, not presented as a formal rule.
Current and future rules
Where a rule is not yet in force, the guide says so and records the expected date. We do not treat a future CMA requirement as a duty that already applies. If different types of business have different start dates, those dates appear on the page.
Dates and updates
Each guide records when it was published, last updated, last reviewed, and when the cited evidence was last checked. The date on the page is last updated. We do not change that date only to look fresh. We review a guide again when a cited source changes, or when the next review date arrives.
When a veterinary review is required
Process and rights pages can publish after an editorial check. Content that would tell an owner what to do about a health problem needs a recorded veterinary review of that exact version before publication. We do not invent a veterinary or legal review.
AI-assisted drafting
We may use AI-assisted tools when researching or drafting a guide. Published factual claims are checked separately against the cited sources, and a guide is not treated as approved simply because a drafting tool produced it. A person on the editorial team still has to treat the page as approved before we treat it as signed off.
Corrections
If you spot an error, email info@vetscompared.com with the page address and what should change. We will check the cited source and update the page when the evidence requires it.
