Unlimited consultations does not mean unlimited veterinary care. On a UK pet health plan the phrase usually covers the consultation fee for an eligible appointment. Medicines, tests, procedures, treatment, out-of-hours appointments and referrals may still be charged separately unless the plan specifically says they are included.

What the phrase covers
The consultation is the time the vet spends assessing the animal. Check the written terms before assuming an evening or referral appointment is included. A fair-use or routine-only limit can also mean an advertised unlimited benefit still depends on how often you book and which appointments count.
What the current published plans show
On 30 August 2026, 15 of the 46 published plans in the VetsCompared catalogue advertised unlimited consultations. Across those 15, treatment after the consultation and medicines after the consultation were not published as included. Ten of the 15 said out-of-hours care was not included, and twelve applied a fair-use limit. Some also limit which appointments count, so check whether consultations for illness are eligible and how the provider uses the word routine.
